Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then located numerous other marked cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials say initial examinations suggest the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the event," they added.
City officials announced they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.
An important representative stated the incident rendered him speechless and had to be solved rapidly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
